Parent/Instructor Guide
Before beginning the learning adventure with your student in Letters to Language™: Making Sense of the Alphabet, please take a few minutes to go through this section—it is designed just for you.
“When learning is fun, a lot of learning gets done!”
To become a more positive and powerful source of support in a student’s learning often requires a shift in how we view learning itself—sometimes even letting go of old ideas about what learning “should” look like.
In Letters to Language™ (LtL), learning is approached as a joyful, meaningful experience—a wonderful opportunity to grow in knowledge, confidence, and self-expression.
LtL provides many proven, fun, and effective ways to build a strong foundation for decoding, writing, and spelling. It demonstrates how learning can be both highly effective and deeply enjoyable when imagination, creativity, empathy, and multiple learning modalities are used together.
As a parent or instructor, your role is to help create a positive, encouraging environment where the student can explore, discover, and grow.
Learning in Letters to Language™ should always be experienced as joyful and engaging—never as a punishment.
Letters to Language™ helps transform the love you have for your child into a love of learning that they can carry for life.
Roles
The LtL Videos Teach
The videos are alphabetically sequenced and carefully structured so each lesson builds upon the one before it.
They are designed with intertwining learning modalities, specialized concepts, patterned repetition, and associative methods to purposefully activate long-term memory.
The role of the videos is to teach.
The Parent/Instructor Supports
Facilitating the videos, organizing materials, and helping the student remain engaged are all part of the parent/instructor role.
Taking time to stay positive and to play with your student using the fun reinforcing activities provided helps ensure optimal learning takes place.
The LtL prompts are powerful tools for you to use as you provide effective learning support.
The Student Learns
The student’s role is to enjoy learning—by watching and interacting with the videos, coloring, drawing, writing in the books, and playing the reinforcing activities.
The more joyfully engaged the student becomes, the more deeply the learning is retained.
With LtL, the student learns.
